Week 3- Chapter 3

Rating myself on prevention…..out of the 10 questions that were asked I can honestly answer “yes” to all 10. I truly believe that I take very good care of my body and health. It is not something that I do because I should. I do it because I want to. It really does make me feel better when everything is taken care of.

A good example of this is working out. You hear people say that if you work out you will feel better but most do not believe it. I am living proof that this is very true. When I work out, I have more energy, I am less stressed and I also make better food choices. Life is short and you should get to enjoy things like food if that is your pleasure. I enjoy eating good food and I eat what I want, when I want--moderation is keyword.

Prevention is half the battle. It is like Jennifer Sharp stated in her paper -- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I also found a quote from Thomas Edison (US inventor (1847 - 1931) “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Kudos...you have motivated me to do the right thing, not because its healthy but because I should want to feel energized! I realize it is going to take a change in my behavior. Despite my busy schedule, I'm going to have to make time for ME!

I agree with what you have said. I think this has been easier to put into proper perspective as I have gotten older. I admire younger people who get this concept at an earlier age. It is so important to work out. I know it makes me feel good afterward. I don't always enjoy dragging myself there, but I enjoy the feeling when I am done!

I wish I had your motivation!! I so badly want what you have and cannot find it within myself to get up and go! Like I told Joyce, the worst part is that I know better! I know what happens when you neglect your own needs. I also have a husband, mother and many other peple who care about me who would be very upset if anything happened to my health. I would be most dissapointed in myself. Reading your post has given me a spark, hopefully I can use it to light a fire under my butt! =) Thanks Lisa!!!

Lisa,

It's good to hear that someone has scored a perfect! You have done a good job if you have managed to deal with these preventive practices. I also agree with you about being older and making it easier to have better health practices. I am still somewhat young and have problems with my own. As I get older I can tell the importance of all ten questions.

I frequently exercise and will agree with you that it relieves stress. It is very hard to find people that commit to being active and consume healthy foods especially in college. I was impressed by your utmost dedication to good health. I was especially impressed with the fact that you did not wait until you turned 40 to go for a mammogram. I love the quotations you included in your blog “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. By taking care of our bodies, we are eliminating the chances of aging with chronic diseases and increasing our chances of aging gracefully. Keep up with the healthy habits.

Hi Lisa, I really enjoyed reading your post. I hope one day that I will be as motivated as you are when it comes to working out. So far, I decided to jog at least 2 to 3 times a week and I do have to admit I feel good after a 4 mile jog.
