Blog #14- Preventing Assualt

Some of the best ways that women can reduce their risk of assault is by being aware of their surroundings, try not to put themselves into vulnerable situations (ex. dark alleys), and also stand up for what is right. What I mean by standing up for what is right is if someone is hateful and threatens you than get out. Do not stick around to see what might happen later. So many terrible things happen in this world so everyone needs to be aware and prepared. It has gotten to the point where I have actually taken some defense classes. It never hurts to know little helpful hints when you are put in a bind.

You are absolutely right! A woman should be aware of her surroundings at all times. That was a great idea to take self-defense classes. More and more women should consider it. It doesn't hurt to be safe rather than sorry.

I am so glad that you have taken some self-defense classes. I think that by taking these classes, a person is more confident with themselves. I think that if you have to be out at night by yourself then, you can ask another woman to walk with you to your car and then take the good Samaritan to her car. I would also wait for the other person to back out of the parking lot before leaving.

Lisa,
Why not use your head, and take precautions. A woman should always be aware of her surroundings, especially when it is dark outside and there is danger of an assault. Woman or people in general do not ask to be assaulted, but one can reduce their chances, by being prepared for the worst. As far as you comment of "standing up for what is right is if someone is hateful and threatens you then get out." I think you are talking about domestic violence? Well, it is good to take a hint early, and carrying pepper spray or mace would not hurt either. What is your take on the Virginia Tech assault? What do you think those persons could have done to prevent an assault? Campuses are doing more to protect themselves, but I like the Dixie Chicks sing, “…More Love!” I think the world needs more love.
