Fountain of Youth

We are all on the hunt for the fountain of youth. I believe that people want to stay looking young because we all yearn for the body that we had when we were 20 years old. It is hard to be comfortable in your skin when everything that you read and see on TV is about a younger, better looking self. I think that the society, media and advertising is to blame for a lot of this way of thinking. No one looks at aging with a positive attitude. I wish that I had a dime for every time that I have heard someone say that they were not celebrating anymore birthdays. I am going to celebrate ever birthday because it is much better than the alternative which means not being alive to enjoy yourself for another birthday.

People including myself need to just let it go. Enjoy every minute of life.

I agree! I think that aging is actually cool... It hopefully means more time to see my children grow up, to see them get married, have children and so on... And, there is a certain beauty with aging. And, when I am old, I will still be the same old me, just one that has seen the passing of time. At work, I here a lot of people say that they hope they die before they become incontinent (which is not a normal aging process), that they want to die young. I think that is sad... Life is a gift, and an opportunity.

I agree that everyone is looking for the fountain of youth. People don’t realize that being able to look young has a lot to do with genetics and some are due to how well we have taken care of ourselves in the past. A lot of people feel that they should look like the model on a poster or on the cover of a magazine. People don’t realize that the advertisement for anti-aging creams are primarily done by actresses and actors that have been air brushed to look younger. I agree that the best message is to enjoy every minute of life.

I agree with you on the point that the media has a lot to do with our perceptions of our bodies. With all of the models and other images that are thrown at us, it is hard to appreciate our own bodies and ignore what we see in the media.

There is absolutely a certain beauty associated with aging. People need to be less concerned about all of the wrinkle-reducing creams, and just enjoy getting old gracefully.
